Summary:
By 2098, the rise in sea level has flooded low-lying areas along the Southern California coast. The flooding has created a patchwork of marsh islands where the displaced “dung people” live – subsistence fishermen and farmers…the future’s untouchables.
The affluent live high above the marshland, in condominiums bolted to the underside of old freeway flyovers. Jacque lives in a posh end unit and is the CEO of an international trading company. She discovers Desmond, a handsome dark-skinned “dungee,” trying to steal crops grown on her balcony. She helps him escape from the murderous Security Forces. When they meet again on a moonlit night, their attraction leads to passionate lovemaking. But can love and lust overcome their differences? Create a lasting bond? Don’t assume anything about this story, because the ending may surprise you.

Excerpt:

Moving along the walkway that surrounded her unit, she froze. A metal hook with rope attached hung from the railing. The rope was taut. Jacque leaned outward. A man clung to the line ten meters below, almost hidden in the vines. With a yelp, she retreated.
“HELP, PLEASE. I won’t hurt—” followed her inside.
Slamming the door, she reached for the vidcom to call Security, but stopped. Stay calm…stay calm. You can take care of this…you’re in control here.
From the kitchen, she retrieved a serrated knife. A shiver ran through her body. You can do this…you’re top management now…. She pushed through the balcony door and moved to the rope. It was made of some kind of hand-braided material, probably from the marsh reeds that concealed the dung people’s villages. She sawed on the line with the knife. It began to tremble.
“PLEASE DON’T,” the dungee shouted. “The fall will kill me.”
She stopped sawing and yelled, “Then climb down and get the hell out of here.”
“I can’t. Look.”
The coffee-with-soy colored man pointed to the lagoon. A massive school of finned fish cut the water’s surface. She watched a particularly large example roll onto its side, showing jagged teeth. Maybe I should feed him to those critters and save Security the trouble.
“PLEASE, I’m begging you.” He used proper English, which surprised her. She’d expected the dungees to communicate in grunts and growls. But it was the fear and pleading in his voice that made it tough for her to treat him like the animal he was.

Summary:

When Belinda arrives fresh from England, at her father’s store on the edge of a Navajo reservation, she is faced with not only the news her father is ill in hospital, but the store is being run by Jez Lansdowne, a man she hates and distrusts. Until she can find out why Jez is suddenly her father’s new partner, Belinda is forced to live in Chief Yuma’s storage hut, next to the store.
Yuma is annoyed the fiery English woman is living on his land, as the Res is soon closing to outsiders. They clash, but a deeper emotion grows into a love that makes Yuma question his culture and traditions.

Excerpt:

Belinda ran full pelt towards the sound of the waterfall. Just when she thought she was almost there, her feet left the ground and she screamed in angry frustration. Muscular arms encased her like tight bands of steel, and she clawed at them knowing in her heart that this man was way too strong for her to escape from.
“Let me go,” she screamed, scratching and kicking with every bit of strength she possessed. “Get off me.” It took a few moments for her to register the soft, masculine voice in her ear.
“Belinda, it’s all right. You’re safe now—with friends. No-one’s going to hurt you.”
Belinda continued to struggle. Friends! She didn’t have any of them in this godforsaken country. A small sob pushed through her swollen lips, as her strength began to wane.
“Belinda, stop. The fight is over. I promise you that while there is breath in my body, no one will hurt you like this again. You’re safe with me.”As the words penetrated her terror fuelled brain, Belinda slowly ceased her wild struggle. She didn’t know who held her, but for the first time since she was a child, she felt totally safe. Still locked inside the protective circle of the arms holding her, she slowly turned. A sob caught in her throat when she saw a single turquoise stone hanging on a silver chain. It was lying on a bare, golden chest, one she remembered very well.

Summary:

Macha of the Red Braids exudes the essence of female power. Defying and fighting two kings, she takes her father’s place on the throne. With one goal in mind, she uses magic, battles, disguises, and skills of seduction to take the crown as sole ruler. She is the only woman listed as a High King of Ireland. She builds the famed kingdom of Emain Macha, marking off the borders with the pin of her treasured cloak brooch. Even still, a Champion from the wilds of Connaught throws the powerful battle queen off guard when he comes to claim her heart. Has Macha met her match in Nath of Connaught? Will he pass the three trials she has set before him?

Excerpt:

It was night, her element. As there were the dark gods of the moon and the sea, so there were the bright ones of the sun. She was dark. Her gaze fell onto the distant plain where she had raced with Nath earlier in the day. Though clouded in darkness now, she thought of the lush green grass that blanketed the earth. The deep, dark soil was firm and solid: sure, constant, and dependable.
She turned and gasped. Nath had come upon her, silently. He stood there at her side.
“I did not mean to startle you, my queen.”
His nearness was overwhelming. She cleared her throat, pretending not to be affected. “Not at all.”
But she couldn’t tear her gaze from him. Fiery sun, bright and hot, big and bold. Everyone wants him to shine on them.
“The druid thought you would be out here.”
“The druid knows me well.”
When the rays of the sun touched the rich earth, they created the lush peaceful green pasture. She needed him, the sun for her earth. They completed each other. They belonged together: dark and light, earth and sun, Nath and Macha. The druid knew it, and druids were never wrong.
He looked up, and her gaze followed his. The pearl moon gleamed, smooth and perfect against the clear ebony sky, which twinkled with countless stars.
“Dark, sparkling, vast and enchanting,” Nath rasped.
“Yes, the night sky is lovely.”
“I did not mean the sky, my queen.”
A twinkle of moonlight caught her eye as she gazed at him. His eyes alone could set her ablaze. Fire danced in her. “I need to speak with you.”
“Yes, your majesty?” He leaned closer to her.“Nath, what is it you want of me?”

Summary:

Scout never expected to wake up one day with a power that allowed her to jump into other worlds. She never expected God to tell her that she was special and destined for greatness. But most of all, she never expected to learn that her life as she knew it was fabricated to hide the dark secret of her true identity.
Provocative and enthralling, A Touch of Scarlet invites you into a world beyond good and evil where the truth is merely a matter of opinion.

Excerpt:

“I hold more emotion in this small body than any other being ever has. My mind is broken, not into two equal sides of good and evil but into many factions of grey. You think you know me. You think you can control me because I am yours. Well, I am not yours anymore. I belong to the aspirations of man. I am what they long to be. Before the end, you should know and accept that.”
“I cannot. I want you to be as you were born to be; I still see the good in you, Scout.”
“The good is there, for sure, but there is a stronger force within me; one that exceeds all others,” I replied.
“You’re trying to be proud, but I feel the struggle within you. The bits I created anew are trying to break free. I know you have regret because I can feel your sorrow. You know what you did was wrong.”
“The only sorrow I know comes from residue of realization that the good of my life was a lie,” I responded.
“It's not true. You're not damned, Scout. I can save you.”
“I’m beyond salvation, and even if I weren't, I would not accept your aid.”
“I am not the one who is trying to hurt you,” she said.“It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter what your intentions were; there’s no way to go back. We both need to live with the fact that you put me together wrong, and that because of it, I am the most magnificent being in all creation.”

Summary:

Kendra is the quintessential girl next door. She runs a small bookshop in the center of Cape Town, lives in the suburbs with her mother, and nothing spectacular ever happens to her until her dream man, a tall dark Bond-like Englishman strolls into her store. And when an unusual earthquake strikes the heart of Cape Town, Kendra has no idea the event will disrupt more than just the city - her life is about to be thrown into turmoil.

Mark Holby, the Rift Council’s crisis manager, runs a small group of elite operatives, who must ensure that the world’s historical timeline remains stable. Ever since science stumbled onto the Rift, groups have been travelling back in time to change history for their gain.

Mark must recruit Kendra in order to help the group travel back in time, but in joining the group, Kendra will have choose between the death of her father and life with the man of her dreams.

Excerpt:

Adrenaline thundered through Kendra’s veins. Her heart raced. The tiny hairs all over her body rose, like static electricity before a storm on a dry summer’s day. With her eyes screwed shut, she prayed it wouldn’t hurt. And that she would live. Almost as soon as she stepped into the portal, the electrical field dissipated. The loud jarring honk of a horn assaulted her ears. A horn? She opened her eyes. She spotted the green army Jeep hurtling towards her. Startled, she barely had time to leap out of the way, as a group of angry soldiers jeered, shaking their fists. Wide-eyed she watched them disappear down the hill in a cloud of red dust. As she peered down the road, Leo materialized in the spot she’d just been.

Summary:

On February 19th, 1945, one thousand Japanese soldiers retreat into the fetid mangrove swamps of Ramree Island hoping to escape their British enemy. However it is soon apparent that the twelve kilometre stretch of marshland that promised to offer safe cover, has delivered them straight into the jaws of hell.

Inspired by true events during WWII, Sunset on Ramree follows young musician-turned-soldier Shigeatsu Nakadai and his best friend, Kodi, as they head ever deeper into danger.

Excerpt:

I try to conjure a memory of before the war—something, anything to distract me—but draw a blank every time. I purse my lips to whistle a familiar tune, but nothing comes out. I shut my eyes tight and roll them inward until they ache and release a heavy pulse. The screams and shots and calls for surrender are still there. Kodi and Sobiku are still there. I imagine the reed of a clarinet between my lips and the long, sustained breath given to making sweetly aching music. But nothing comes out. No tune, no melody, no woodwind to soothe the mangroves. Just the damp, cold harmonics of the night. I’m lost without music, and there is no music on Ramree.

Summary:

Selene believes Ferdinand would abandon her if he knew she was a werewolf, something that isn't supposed to exist. Ferdinand hides his vampirism from her for the same reasons, and must also hide from a world that thinks he's evil. He's just a melancholy English major who had a serious misadventure last summer. She's just a college student with a bizarre family history. A comedy of secrets and a romance of accepting what makes us different.

Excerpt:

“I have a condition that makes me, um, sensitive to strong light. My name is Ferdinand, by the way.”
“Ferdinand?” She had visions of German counts and friendly bulls.
He shrugged. “My roommates call me Ferdin and my mother says Ferdy, when she's in a good mood.”
Selene couldn't repress a giggle. “Ferdy doesn't suit you at all, especially in that vampire get-up. What color are your eyes, really?”
He stared off into space for a moment, then said, “Blue...Your costume. What creature are you supposed to be?”
Selene grinned. “Nobody gets it on first try. I forgot all about the party until this morning, and didn't have time to put a costume together, so I just came as a werewolf on the other twenty-nine nights of the month.”
“Clever!” he said, amused. “I've never seen such a good-looking werewolf in all my life.”
“Are you flirting with me?” “Aren't vampires supposed to be oversexed?”

Summary:

Carla Jamison was enjoying a warm summer day at the park near her suburban home—a habit of hers many people knew about—when she took her last breath. Olivia Corfont, forensics expert and coroner, now has a tough case on her autopsy table. Very little evidence and too many questions provide her with a conundrum that leads her straight to Inspector Chet Gavin, who relies heavily on Olivia's powers of observation to notice things he might miss. Chasing down dead-end leads leaves the pair questioning whether the homicide of this popular schoolteacher is the work of a serial killer they thought was behind bars. Or is the murderer someone else so precise he or she leaves behind no forensic evidence? Will the killer strike again? Can Olivia and Inspector Gavin solve the case before there's another victim? Follow the trail and see if you can solve the case.

Excerpt:

“Carla Jamison. Thirty-five. Schoolteacher. Married. Husband’s out of town.”
Inspector Chet Gavin looked up from the female body slumped over the picnic table. His eyes met those of Detective Peter Jannings. “Has he been notified?”
“We’re working on it.”
“Who found her?”
“Ten-year-old boy. He was meeting some friends here at the park when he thought she looked funny. He says he tried to wake her. That’s when he realized she was dead.”
“Tough thing for a kid.”
“She was his teacher.”
"Any reason to suspect he had anything to do with her death?"
Jannings shook his head. "The kid's not doing too well. We separated him and his two buddies. Questioned them and though their answers match, there're enough differences to know they weren't rehearsing a story to give the cops. I think he just had the unfortunate luck to come upon her after she died."
Gavin shook his head, then turned and studied the child where he sat talking with a female officer. “Someone needs to get his parents down here.”
“Already on that. They’re on their way.”
“What else have you got?”
Jannings shrugged, then flipped through his notepad. “Not much, Inspector. This time of day, the park’s pretty deserted. Most people are at the county fair this week.”
“No witnesses?”
“No. A man walking his dog said he was here at roughly eleven o’clock. She was sitting here eating a sandwich.”“Her last.”

Summary:

On Midsummer’s Eve, archeologist Goldie Locke finds more than she bargained for at her dig site. She’s devoted years to discovering the equivalent of a Scottish Rosetta stone to unlock the mystery of the Pictish language. After unearthing a promising carving, she falls asleep in a fairy circle and wakes up completely naked next to a sexy, equally naked Archfay named Tyrnan. She can see he’s well equipped to grant her every wish, but rather than spending a hot night with Tyrnan, all-work-and-no-play Goldie opts for learning more about the stone carving.

Granting her request, Tyrnan transports her to the fifth century, but he has ulterior plans. Goldie meets a warrior king and a passionate storyteller, and these encounters will prove to her that fairy tales do come true—though not always in the expected way.

Excerpt:

“Let me get this right. You’re saying I’m in a fairy tale and you’re one of those little floaty things with wings, like Tinkerbell?” She knew full well what he meant by archfay. You couldn’t avoid a few lessons on the folklore of the Celts when you studied their languages. However, the use of stories about the daomine sidhe, the Tuatha De Danann, as a stepping-stone to decipher ancient texts was a far cry from believing in their existence. She’d meant to get a rise out of him and had, but not in the way she’d intended.
Tyrnan’s cock stiffened, and as it rose, so did he. He got to his feet and drew up to his full height. All six-foot-plus of him rippled with hard, lean muscle. Whether from the sunlight here in his enchanted field or some inner glow, he looked almost luminescent. Tall, radiant, powerful and certainly not tiny—in any way.
He stretched out his arms and a richly adorned green velvet robe appeared around him from nowhere. A headdress of gold shimmered into existence, his dark curls interwoven with the Celtic knots of its bright metal bands.
With him clothed, even in part, Goldie felt more naked than before. She drew back and wrapped her arms around her bent knees to cover herself. Cowering like a child. But she couldn’t help it. He was downright imposing. Okay. So maybe he is what he claims to be.
“If you are not overhappy to be here with me, I can send you back,” he told her, looking not entirely pleased himself.
A thought struck her. She didn’t really know that much about faery folks’ powers, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask. “Can you send me anywhere?”
“Any where, any when you desire.”

Summary:

Some of us are gatherers. Some are hunters. Some are healers. Jason Cain ran away to Miami not only to escape his past, but to escape his future as well. He left behind a pretty girlfriend, a college education, and a promising career in the shadow of his father, a prominent Chicago surgeon. He also left behind a haunting tragedy, something that stopped him from becoming the man he was destined to be. But all that is about to change.

Under the Miami Moon, Jason Cain is about to be chosen to fulfill his destiny - to become a healer. Drawn into a forbidden world, plucked from the streets of Miami and taken to a mansion filled with danger and debauchery in the middle of a Florida bayou, Jason is about to experience male love, lust and longing like he has never known before. Here, the Vampire Xavier - the muscular, dominant master of his own lair - will give Jason the redemption and healing that he so desperately craves. The price - his mortality.

Excerpt:

The scene outside the mansion was a tame image of sexual openness and polite, pleasure-seeking indulgence compared to the opulence, the extravagance, the profligacy, the dizzy hedonism of the world Jason Cain encountered when he walked into the mansion:
Candles bleeding molten wax from silver candlesticks and elaborate candelabras…
A quartet of violinists playing Beethoven while the pianist sat back, enjoying the pleasure of a slim cigar, all five of them wearing nothing but bowties…
Two men in tuxedoes draped over a naked young man on an eighteenth-century rococo chaise lounge, one man gnawing on the naked subject's ear, the other gnawing on his anus, rimming him with his tongue and felching the glistening hole…
Eight white doves, perched on the arms of a giant crystal chandelier, cooing and casually watching the decadence unfolding below…
A gorgeous naked man with a studded collar around his neck and another around his erect cock, walking a seven-foot-long alligator on a lead as though it were his pet poodle. The reptile also wore a studded collar and snapped non-threateningly at the other guests as it crawled across the red Persian carpet, leaving a slimy, claw-marked trail behind it. Nobody seemed to mind nor care.
"What is this place? Who are you people? Why am I here?"
"This is Xavier's Liar."

Summary:

Randolph Lowe is a distinguished British Secret Agent in the twilight of his career. When he is handed a mission to kill one of the world’s least accessible, yet most wanted assassins, he never expected a beautiful young woman with the alias, Stella.

Stella leads him around the world as she picks off her marks with ease, during which time Randolph grows infatuated and falls in love.
But Stella has her own dark secret. Forced into making a terrible sacrifice, she is forced to live her life as a lone killer.

The love of one man may be enough to free her, and only that man can save her now...but only if he can find her.

Excerpt:

“Baccara?” said Randolph. “Can I see the spec please, sir?”
Burke handed over a light brown loose-leaf folder with the operation title printed on the centre of the cover, beneath blood-red words: ‘No Eyes’.
He paused. “Should I be seeing this?”
Burke spoke with fierce authority. “This is about as sensitive a mission as you can get, Lowe. Speed read it before you leave this room, then give it back to me to be destroyed.”
Randolph opened the folder with a shiver of caution. He had only ever heard of a case file being labeled 'No Eyes' on one other occasion - and that was when the plot to assassinate Hitler was first put onto the table.
On the first sheet of paper was the profile of a young woman. She had no confirmed name but had been given the alias, Stella. The paper gave her estimated height and weight: medium and medium; her features: defined and blonde; her general appearance: tidy and classy. All these observations were noted down in neat, anonymous handwriting. The file also included details of her last known whereabouts, some of her regular hangouts, and a picture of her sitting in a coffee shop somewhere in Eastern Europe. Her hair was blonde and wavy, and she was dressed in jeans and casual blouse with fashionable shades covering her eyes. She looked more like an A-class Hollywood actress than an MI5 target.
Randolph turned the page and read the section on her most recent movements and known acquaintances. She was wanted for questioning by several governments around the world, mostly on suspicion of being involved with assassination or plots to assassinate. There was no paper trail behind her, and no electronic, banking, or credit transactions traceable. She had been known to spend time with various government ministers and important businessmen from countries across three continents, but nobody could identify her formally. Needless to say, there were no witnesses to any of her crimes, her whole existence seemingly based on hearsay.
“She's an assassin?” Randolph asked, surprised that someone with such striking beauty stood accused of being a cold-blooded killer.

When Madelyn sells her soul on UBuy, she’s not ready for the hell that’s unleashed. All she really wants is to make a success of her art. But the gorgeous stranger who buys her soul for $666 asks her to perform a few tasks. Tests of her true worth, Madelyn thinks, as each brings her – and her cat Brutus – into greater danger. And closer to the frightening shadowy figure stalking her. On All Hallows Eve, her final test will open the gates of hell. Or is it heaven?

Excerpt:

At the coffee shop, Madelyn waits at a table by the window and scans the Evening Gazette. The news is always the same. Until she reaches page six, where a blurb describes a disturbance the night before in her neighborhood. Telephone reception was lost. Television signals were scrambled. Residents reported strange noises, though no one saw anything out of the ordinary.
No one but Madelyn.
The guy in all black comes through the door. Her breath is caught in her chest. As he holds her gaze, his dark eyes sparkle like black diamonds. Her heart pounds as he walks to her table and sits down across from her.
“It’s you.” But she’d known it would be.
His expression is warm and inviting as he looks her over. “I wanted to be sure that, with such a low starting bid, your soul isn’t tarnished.” He speaks to her as if she’s an old friend.
“I feel like it is.” She proceeds to spill her guts to him. Even as she thinks she should be embarrassed to be doing so, it makes her feel lighter, like unburdening herself opens up space inside her, previously made heavy with bad thoughts, unfulfilled hopes, despair and gloom. Now it’s kind of airy, little particles sparking in the light as they float by.
His gaze penetrates her to the core. “So you think fifty dollars is all it’s worth? Your soul – the essence of your being?”
She couldn’t feel more exposed if an x-ray of her insides were hanging in the window beside them. “It started out as a joke. I thought people would read it and laugh. I wasn’t expecting anyone to place a bid. I wasn’t expecting…” she gulps, “…you.” Her intellect recognizes the idiocy of her situation. And stupidity. What a mess she’s made.
He leans in, his voice low, his smile like a crocodile about to snap her up. His breath is like a heat wave across her face and neck. “Didn’t your mother warn you not to wish your life away?” It seems less a question than a reminder.

Summary:

Luzan Kiowa has lived in the canyon all her life, but it’s never felt right. Leaving the man she loves behind, she journeys with a group of searchers to find her real home. She takes along with her the yellow stone given to her by her Moma Kiowa, whose ancestors took it from their homeland following a devastating super volcano eruption. The stone leads her to the home of her ancestors, but the place is not what she expects. Will she continue to live in the strange new land where life is easy, or will she return to the only Ameriki who can truly warm her heart and anchor her feet to the earth?

Excerpt:

Moma Kiowa was buried at daybreak. Lozan selected a grave site atop the canyon walls, where Moma's spirit could overlook the western horizon and watch over her when she journeyed again. Wind rushed across the mesa, chilling Lozan and thickening her tears into icy droplets upon her cheeks. Not a single petal adorned Moma's final resting spot: the flora had already relinquished its life to the changing weather. Chanters promenaded around the grave, moving their ceremonially dressed bodies in a slow, graceful dance.

Summary:
Deep in Shaman’s Forest, the vampire Valkyrie awakens to find her dhampir son, Anthony, ill with a fever. The sorceress says Anthony must have his father’s blood before the next full moon or else he will die. Valkyrie journeys with Anthony into the city to find a man she has not seen in 15 years. But will Anthony’s fascination with human life and Valkyrie’s need to feed on living blood tear them apart before Anthony’s father can be found?

Excerpt:

“He may look fine now, but he is dying,” the sorceress warned. “He needs you to help him.”
“How?”
“He needs his father’s blood. Anyone else’s blood will only hasten his demise.”
“But his father is human. How will I find him?”
“You will smell his scent like you smelled him before when you hungered for his flesh, thirsted for his blood.”
Valkyrie stared off into the distance and sighed. “I never hungered for him. He found my cave years ago on a camping trip. He was braver than the rest. He crept down to my tomb and startled me.”
The sorceress nodded, as if she already knew.
“Perhaps I should have bitten him, contaminated him, made him forever mine. But I let him go.” Valkyrie’s eyes misted. “I was in love.”

Summary:

In 206 B.C., China is torn by warring dynasties. A young warrior, Lau, receives orders to verify the legend of a magic wagon that can cross rivers unseen. He encounters Ning, the wagon-maker in the seaside village of Yantai. Ning has constructed an unusual wagon that can submerge, travel along the bottom of the Bay of Bohai, and surface in safety—the world’s first practical submarine.

Ning enjoys the peace and beauty of his undersea excursions and will not allow the military to seize his wagon or learn its secrets. Lau must bring the valuable weapon back to his superior. In the hands of these two men rest the future of the submarine, as an instrument of war or exploration.

Excerpt:

“Ah, Ning, with this machine, you have given birth to a truly modern age,” Lau marveled. He needed to find out if Ning would be receptive to his plans or not. “With this chariot, one can do so much more than merely watch fish. Troops could cross deep rivers, bays, seas, and even the great eastern ocean. No lookout on shore would see them coming. The great Sun Tzu tells us we must use surprise for a successful invasion, and we must travel by unexpected routes. But even he could never have imagined an underwater chariot. What a marvelous engine of war! Have you thought of these things, Ning?”
The old man looked at him in horror, then frowned. “You told me you were a traveler who enjoyed watching fish.”
“Think of this,” Lau went on. “Imagine a chain of your chariots linked by stout ropes, emerging from the water up onto an enemy’s beach. It would appear as a dragon rising from the sea to any lookout ashore. He would be too scared to send his alarm signal.” Lau had to get this chariot to his Lion, along with the secret for making more. The silly old man was wasting time observing gobies while the Qin armies could be using the machines for sneak attacks.
Ning shook his head. “I did not build this wagon for war. You have deceived me with a lie. We must go back now. Kindly rotate the wheel in the opposite direction.”

Summary:

Mariah Cassidy awakens in the twentieth century. Confined in a pristine environment, hooked to tubes and beeping machines, she’s scared, confused and wondering why everyone keeps calling her Mrs. Morgan. Who is the strange man who keeps massaging her forehead and telling her everything is going to be alright?

Taylor Morgan tries to focus on her surroundings through a blinding headache. The patchwork quilt, the water basin, and the archaic room don’t strike a familiar chord. Her mouth gapes when a handsome man waltzes into the room, calls her darling, and expresses his delight that she’s on the road to recovery.

Clearly something is amiss.

Excerpt:

Suddenly, an intense rumbling sound shook the prairie stillness. From an almost cloudless sky, thunder cast a single bolt of lightning, striking the ground with energy enough to propel dirt through the air and set fire to a small patch of grass. Immediately, calm prevailed; only a column of smoke billowing skyward remained as evidence.
Frank pondered the strange occurrence, but fueled by the need to find his wife, hurried in the direction of the fading smoke. “Mariah, Mariah, please answer me.” His boots cut a path through the heavy brush.
In the grass beyond the wagon, he spied the brim of her yellow bonnet. He rushed to her side, finding her in an oddly contorted position. Mariah’s head rested against a large rock and rivulets of red dripped onto the grass beneath her. Frank’s throat Frank’s throat constricted. “Oh my God, are you all right? Mariah, answer me, please.” His words were little more than a whisper over his choking fear.
He gently removed her head covering and inspected the crimson-stained gash on her temple. “Callie,” he yelled, “Get the tablecloth from the picnic basket. I have to stop this bleeding. Quickly, Jacob, bring me the water jug.”
Frank cleaned Mariah’s wound then wrapped a makeshift bandage around her head, but she remained unconscious. He had to make her hear him; she had to wake up. A tear trickled down his cheek and he brushed it away. His children already sobbed with fear; he had to show strength.
Frank continued to bathe his wife’s face with cool water. “Mariah, please darlin’…” He looked to the sky. “Lord this can’t be happening.”

This will go on until Sunday, April 19th 3PM Eastern when the last writer then must end the story.
Laurin will pick the winner and post it on her blog Monday, April 20th. The writers must check it and get her their email addy. My Erotic Urban Fantasy, Being Familiar With a Witch Is Out

ISBN: 978-1-60659-118-5

My erotic urban fantasy, BEING FAMILIAR WITH A WITCH is now available from Phase Books at http://www.king-cart.com/Phaze/product=Being+Familiar+With+a+Witch/exact_match=exac

Warning: This title contains hot, graphic demonic sex that goes beyond magic.
This is the first book in a series.

Go beyond the usual, instead take the unusual that stretches the boundaries and find romance with Sapphire Phelan's aliens, werewolves, vampires, fairies, and other supernatural/otherworldly heroes and heroines.

Blurb:
Tina doesn't know she's a witch. It will take Charun, her demon Familiar, to convince her to make love with him and let loose her witch powers.

For if she doesn't, then with the demon army about to bring Armageddon to the Mortal Realm on Halloween, she won't stand a chance in Hell.

Excerpt (must be 18 and older to read it and the book):

A year later, Charun stood in front of the mirror on the wall and whispered a few words. The glass warped in and out, becoming something not unlike a television monitor. In it, he saw his witch working in the Cup of Tea and a Book bookstore, handing a bag of books over to a customer.

"She's gorgeous," he whispered.

He ached to reach his hand through the glass and finger the long, blonde strands of her hair. He itched to stroke the skin of her face and see if it felt as soft as it looked. He took a few steps back, for if he didn't he would jam his head through the glass and kiss her on the lips. His cock expanded, growing longer and harder than ever before. Lust tore through him like a ravenous animal ready to devour its prey.

The time had come.

About time, too.

Taking spirit form and not looking back, Charun rose from the bowels of Hell to the mortal realm. He touched ground just down the street from Cup of Tea and a Book bookstore and became a handsome, naked man. His staff waved before him like a proud, hissing snake, spitting even as precum beaded at the slit. He shook his head. No, it was too soon for him to assume the man form. He frowned, thinking.

A cat!

He would become a cat. That would do—for now. Just not a horny tomcat, as the pain of his arousal washed over him. He dodged into a nearby alley and worked his organ, biting his lips when he came.

Withdrawing his hand from his flaccid penis and using the other to prop himself against the building, he spoke in demon, "Denoch er nomonaty."

A strange feeling slammed into him and he cried out as he dropped to his knees on the pavement. Thrusting out a hand against the ground so he wouldn't topple over, he began to metamorphose, growing smaller and smaller as he did. Black fur sprouted all over his body and head. His ears sharpened into points and shot up over his head, while his hands and feet became paws edged with sharp claws. Whiskers pinged out of his cheeks, and from his buttocks snaked a long tail. He hunched over and then fell over onto his ass. Within seconds, his metamorphose completed, he was a black cat. Resisting the peculiar urge to wash his face, Charun stretched and rose onto all four paws. He padded over to a puddle of rainwater to inspect the change.

He sat down and viewed his reflection. Not bad looking as far as cats went. Lifting a paw, he splashed his image. Then he trotted to the street and paused to sniff the air. He sneezed as the full force of odors hit him. A multitude of different things, from the smell of blasted sunshine to the grime of city life. The lack of moisture in the air revealed that it would not rain for days. The last time it had stormed was last week. He had arrived a day too late.

He needed heavy rain to make his first appearance to his witch, as a reason for her to feel sorry for him and take him in. From what he remembered, she would not leave any animal drowning in a torrential downpour. But, from all the viewing he did of her growing up he knew she wasn't an impulsive person, either. She loved animals, but felt that she couldn't afford one right now in her life. He might end up in an animal shelter. This kind of operation needed the right things in place.

Timing was important, too, even now. His witch's survival was the true equation here. If she died before he made her a witch, he knew the fate for Earth if the demons took over. There was the matter of his lust for her, too. Relieving it wouldn't be bad, either.

He cocked his head and twitched his ears. He was a demon, with strong magic. Closing his eyes, he let his magic surround him with a shimmering golden light.

Lano'ste. Na la por lestano.

His fur stood on end, crackling. He widened his eyes as the magic burned within and outside with a violent heat close to atomic. It clenched his insides with an excruciating pain. He fell onto his side and barely noted when it shot away from him, heading toward the blue skies. It dusted the few white clouds drifting along and they became obsidian and pregnant with rain.

Still unsteady, he rolled onto his stomach and waited until the power quieted. Charun breathed in the rain's odor and gave a Cheshire cat grin. He rose to his paws and padded off as the sound of thunder vibrated in the air.

Fuck the weather forecasters and their predictions. With magic, he'd just turned their Doppler radar upside down.

New Atlantis Rising... and the magical sky...

Murder by Hair Spray in Gardenia, New Atlantis ~ The Rising...

An amazing synchronicity, Paranormal lovers ~ Yesterday the late afternoon sky on the tame prairie was eerily and magically similar to the sky Jinger Heaston created for the cover art of my newest release from Siren-BookStrand...my very own ATIV baby...MURDER BY HAIR SPRAY IN GARDENIA, NEW ATLANTIS...
The sky was so similar in color, and in the far-away cloud textures, I simply stopped and stared for long moments, transfixed ~ feeling as though I’d been mystically transported out of my life.
Originally, this story was supposed to be a novella ~ three erotic, then fall-in-love-and-in-passion days between Sheriff Kalypso and Zryphus, the Zerculeon Agent from the Federal Union ~ all while they catch the Hair Spray Killer. But nope, the story swiftly spiraled out of control, becoming epic in scope.
What are my most favorite scenes, beside their erotic romance where IT takes charge ~ why, it’s the *battle of the sexes* scenes, the verbal sparring between Kalypso and Zryphus. Talk about fun and challenging to write.
After all, Kalypso has had one hundred years to despise the way human males behave in relationships. Zryphus has had a lifetime of wanting, of searching for his one woman. She’s not about to give in. He’s not about to give up. What they do agree on, is the immediate capture of the Hair Spray Killer. A matter of life and death, not only for the citizens of New Atlantis, and not only for Kalypso...but, as it turns out, for the life and future of New Atlantis.
Even after writing this story, the legend of Atlantis and the future of New Atlantis continues to live and magically thrive within my author’s imagination. Kalypso and Zryphus continue to live their love story in my heart. Yes, Book II of the New Atlantis Trilogy is a beloved work in progress.
~~~~~~
The futuristic epic begins...
Atlantis is Rising at Siren-BookStrand... on January 15, 2009... it’s not just a legend anymore...
MURDER BY HAIR SPRAY IN GARDENIA, NEW ATLANTIS ~ This story spun and formed in my imagination, turbulent as a sea storm ~ then sprang forth onto paper and onto my computer screen like Poseidon’s powerful emergence from the ocean, during a time lost to history when gods and goddesses ruled the world and the heavens above.
Gardenia, New Atlantis... The future begins here...
The story of beginning a new world on a legendary land...
The beginning of a love Sheriff Kalypso Sun Wing never believed was possible for her, especially not after a hundred years on Earth...
The beginning of a love Federal Agent Zryphus has arrived on Earth to find, only he didn’t plan on remaining in a land where women are in charge...
First Line:
The evil cloud of hair spray dominated the air in guest room 666 at Gardenia’s only motel, The Eternal Magnolia – so named because it was surrounded by a park-like acre of Magnolia trees, saved despite the cataclysmic weather, wars and land changes on Earth.
Heroine and Hero:
Sheriff Kalypso Sun Wing is 100 years old in the year 2051. A rebel at heart, an artist by soul, she survived the sterile fifties’ suburbs, the revolutionary turbulence of the sixties, the disco guru seventies. After the suicide of the man she loved, Kalypso barely survived the designer eighties, the fast-forward nineties. In the 21st century Mother Nature rebelled. Kalypso battled for freedom. She never knew why she survived. Until Atlantis rose. Once again.
Agent Zryphus Dolen Vasquoz chose an enforcement career on Earth for several reasons – his fascination with primitive worlds, to make his own way outside the family heritage, to keep official watch for his own Worlds – and, Zerculeon men find Earth women highly desirable, like the gods of old they rival in strength. Since there aren’t enough Zerculeon women, it’s a match made in intergalactic heaven. Especially when Zryphus gets a real eyeful of the Sheriff.
~~~~~~

Excerpt ~ Kalypso and Zryphus meet ~

“Sheriff.” The man’s voice commanded first, and announced his presence second. “Sheriff Kalypso Sun Wing.”
“Yeah, that’s me.” Turning, Kalypso’s gaze gave no quarter, hard as diamonds on the outsider. “Agent...?” Dang it to hang, he was a tall and broad drink of water. She’d expected the usual tight-ass wimp, with grim lips and eyes that were mirrors, reflecting nothing but the orders they’d been given. No, this man burned with sheer vitality. His gaze assessed, a damn force of nature. She’d bet if she struck a match and tossed it toward his eyes, they would sizzle like her birthday candles, then explode at his will. Yep, he was definitely a whole load of nano dynamite, unlit.
“Agent Zryphus Dolen Vasquoz,” he answered. “Give me your evidence retrieval. I’ll take over from here.”
Audible gasps burst from Anna and Dr. Victoria at the man’s patriarchal and patronizing tone.
“No, you won’t, Agent Vasquoz. You’re here at my invitation. Only. You follow my rules or you don’t get to play ‘Find the Hair Spray Killer’. Do you understand?”
“Wowzi Powzie,” Deputy Anna whispered, watching her vid screen light up with the sparks flying between the Sheriff and the outsider Agent.
“It’s a Federal Union case, Sheriff. I have priority investigation.” The Agent’s gravelly deep voice filled the entire room.
“You have nothing, Agent. Unless I say so. You can turn around, hit the portal. Or you can cooperate. You’ll have full access. Anna will give you all she’s retrieved so far. If you want, I’ll even act friendly, let you ‘analyze’ this bag more closely.” Sheriff Kalypso approached, a lioness with no fear. “I’ll even sweeten the pot, Agent Vasquoz—let you do a quick exam of the body before we save the fetus. As they used to say, deal or no deal?”
“Whirlwind in the room,” Deputy Anna whispered to Victoria, who still watched her vid screen.
“Deal. For now, Sheriff.” Focusing his gaze like a cannon laser, the Agent straightened his over-large shoulders, his latent power obvious.
“Pull anything against my authority, Agent Vasquoz, and I guarantee you won’t like the results. Deputy, feed your vid evidence to the Agent’s data base, will you, please?”
Once Anna stood, he handed his data vid to her without looking. His gaze relentless, Agent Vasquez followed the Sheriff’s arm wave to the corpse. Moving easily in the small confines of the room, despite his size, he knelt with deliberate care, scrutinizing every detail of the body.
Sheriff Kalypso couldn’t deny his concentration was impressive. She watched him turn the victim over with gentle precision.
Awed, her heart tripping rapidly, Sheriff Kalypso moved closer. “Even her face resembles Jackie O.”
“How do you know?” Agent Vasquoz demanded, not looking up.
“I was born in 1951. Check out your history data base, Agent.”
“Call me Zryphus.”
